India

This time last week I had just arrived home after spending 8 days in India.
I like to think of myself as well travelled but never before have I been to a place quite like India.
There are a few things that shocked me.

The first was that of the volume of people. Now I had heard that India has a population of around 90 million people but I have never seen quite so many people in the one place before. Despite the obvious problems that a country is faced with when overcrowded it actually seemed to function quite well.

The second is kind of linked in a way to the first. Traffic!
Due to the amount of people using the roads it would take us forever to get anywhere by car. Not only this but the Indians also seemed to have a different take on road rules. It was found to be quite amusing  as instead of looking into rear-vision mirrors when merging into lanes (when they decided to use lanes) they would simply just blow their horns at each other. However in saying that it was amusing, after four hours of it on one day it did become rather annoying.

Whilst over there we were lucky enough to miss the terrorist attacks in Mumbai by a couple of hours. We were on our way there when we heard about it and it wasn't until we go to our hotel that we realised the severity of it as our car, baggage and selves were checked for explosives. It was scary to think that a bomb had been found just a few blocks down from our hotel.

The most memorable thing that I took away from the trip was that of the people. I loved that despite them being in often shit situations they never failed to be caring and helpful. They were constantly going out of their way to help us and even on our last night they bought us a slice of cake with the words 'bon voyage' written underneath.
